Ubuntu Linux is without any doubt the fastest growing operating system nowadays and the community around it grows every day. With the community, the content also grows and a necessity of indexing all this content is obvious. What
Uboontu does is to concentrate all information in only one place for easy access.
Yes, and no. The
google.com/linux is a useful search tool for Linux users in general. But Ubuntu Linux has its specifics and Uboontu will be as specific as you want, giving you only the relevant content for Ubuntu on reliable places such as Wiki, Help Center, Documentation, Forum, Mailling Lists, and so forth.
Most likely you are using AdBlock Plus. The Uboontu Search Engine uses Google CSE to bring the results for you. For some unknown reason one or more blacklists used by AdBlock Plus has blocked the Google CSE address (or part of it) and then you will get no results if Adblock Plus is enabled.
You can either:
a) Whitelist the domain uboontu.com and google.com in the AdBlock configuration;
b) Disable adblock for the domain uboontu.com;
c) Do not use a blacklist that blocks the Google CSE/Coop (filterset.G, for example).
Unfortunately the creator of the engine is not an experienced web designer and it is his fault.
Right now the website only works 100% on Firefox, 99% on Epiphany, 98% on IE and Opera. But on Konqueror it gets weired.
Please, if you think you can help,
get in touch to fix it!
It is quite simple. I'm not going to teach how to create a plugin for all kind of browsers, it is up to you.
All you need to know is the URL pattern used by the Uboontu Search:
http://www.uboontu.com/results.htm?cof=FORID:11&cx=002072379199720138921:9m-bgfzutzq&q={searchTerms}
Where the {searchTerms} is the variable which your browser uses. On Epiphany, for example, you can use this "Smart URL":
http://www.uboontu.com/results.htm?cof=FORID:11&cx=002072379199720138921:9m-bgfzutzq&q=%s

The work will consist on translating the webpage (text and strings) to you language;
Providing the links where the Search engine will look for content to index and its respectives labels.
I'll create the engine and give the subdomain related to your language. See
Languages for more details.
There are a lot of ways you can help:
- Spreading and advocating the website;
- Helping with code (nowadays the website is pure html, but a PHP or even Python code would be great!);
- Helping with design;
- Translating to you local language;
- Giving your feedback, suggestion and comments.
Contact us and we will answer as soon as possible.
